Principal's Message

Welcome to our 2017-18 school year! We will be “Flying High!” this year as we continue the good work of educating your children, our students, in the months to come.

As the principal of Woodcrest, I am honored to be part of a school community with such a strong sense of family.  We will be building on that strength this year as we begin to incorporate the principles of The Leader in Me across our campus; in classrooms, on the playground, in the cafeteria, the library, and the school office. We believe every student and every adult can be a leader. As we all learn about the “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” (and the “7 Habits of Happy Kids”), we will be acquiring the skills and attitudes necessary to successfully lead ourselves and to lead others around us. There will be more information provided as the year progresses so that you can support these skills at home with your child, as well. Watch our website for newsletters, upcoming events, and important information.

The success of each Woodcrest student depends upon a strong community of support and a willingness to work toward common goals. I encourage you to become as involved as you are able to be in the school community. Besides volunteering directly in your child’s classroom, you could join our wonderful Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) that provides many enriching and exciting activities and events for all of our students. In order for the PTA to do its good work, many volunteers are needed throughout the year. See the Calendar of Events (currently being revised for the new year) in the Parent/Student Handbook for dates and times and check out their website at http://www.woodcrestpta.org.

In the handbook, you will also find information about daily schedules, student dress code, behavior expectations, and much more. Please be sure to sit and read it over with your student so that everyone is informed about school policies and procedures. Keep the handbook in a place where you can pull it out and refer to it often. It has contact information for your child’s teacher, the school office, the cafeteria, and others you may wish to reach during the year. Good communication is the key to mutual understanding and problem-solving. (Handbook is currently being revised for the new year)

I look forward to meeting you at our Back-to-School Night on August 31st from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. We will begin in the Multi-Purpose Room with staff introductions and a short presentation by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Classroom presentations will begin at 6:30.

See you soon!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Jeanette Prescott

Principal
